Now that we\u2019ve received <a href=\"https:\/\/knightfoundation.org\/press\/releases\/knight-foundation-expands-major-initiative-to-rebuild-trust-in-media-and-democracy-announces-6-million-in-funding-to-three-organizations-that-strengthen-local-news\">a $1 million grant<\/a> from the Knight Foundation, hired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/lion-welcomes-chris-krewson-as-executive-director\/\">a new executive director<\/a>, and brought aboard our first-ever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/these-veterans-of-whereby-us-and-vtdigger-are-joining-lion-publishers-full-time\/\">revenue and operations director and programming director<\/a>, we\u2019re looking to bring on four new board members to help advise on LION\u2019s exciting next steps and help future news publishers.<\/p>\n<p>Interested? We\u2019re inviting you to <b>nominate yourself or others by midnight Tuesday, September 24<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSc2P95WjkVsQ1TGPXgJbu6iPG_HGu81fVPYqwV1BUvam_hdNA\/viewform\">using this form<\/a>,\u00a0 also embedded at the bottom of this page.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s who we\u2019re looking for, and what you\u2019d need to be committed to helping us with:<\/p>\n<p><b>Who you are:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You care deeply about supporting more entrepreneurial efforts in local journalism across the country<\/li>\n<li>You are an existing or former local news publisher or have worked alongside local news publishers to help support their mission<\/li>\n<li>You can see the big picture and want to help develop strategic policy to help the organization achieve its mission<\/li>\n<li>You work well with others and show respect for the ideas and views of fellow board members and staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How you\u2019d help LION:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commit to a three-year board seat term<\/li>\n<li>Commit to attending one in-person board meeting each year<\/li>\n<li>Commit to joining monthly virtual board calls<\/li>\n<li>Offer your expertise, networks and resources to help support LION\u2019s staff and mission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Some other things to know:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You don\u2019t need to be a LION member to be on our board.<\/li>\n<li>You may nominate yourself.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may submit more than one nomination using one form per nomination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Virtual interviews for selected candidates will be held the first week of October.<\/li>\n<li>Attendance of future Board Members at the LION Summit is encouraged but not required.<\/li>\n<li>Prior board experience is not required, but is a plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Official LION board resources:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LION\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/bylaws-of-local-independent-online-news-publishers\/\">current bylaws<\/a><\/li>\n<li>LION\u2019s current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/board-of-directors\/\"> board of directors<\/a><\/li>\n<li>LION <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/role-of-the-board-of-directors\/\"> board responsibilities<\/a><\/li>\n<li>LION individual board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/individual-board-member-duties-and-responsibilities\/\"> member duties and responsibilities<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have questions, you may get in touch with our board vice chair Kim Clark, who is chairing the nominating committee: <a href=\"mailto:vicechair@lionpublishers.com\">vicechair@lionpublishers.com<\/a>.
