At LION, we\u2019re increasingly fielding questions about fiscal sponsorship \u2014 how it works and who will fiscally sponsor news organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fiscal sponsors can help news businesses receive tax-deductible donations from foundations and other philanthropic givers even when those news businesses don\u2019t have a 501(c)3 status. We wrote more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/5-tips-for-choosing-a-fiscal-sponsor-for-your-newsroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> about what to consider when researching whether a fiscal sponsorship is right for your business, and the Pivot Fund <a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/thepivotfund.org\/finding-a-fiscal-sponsor?e=a821682e2b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared some more useful tips<\/a> on finding a fiscal sponsor. Today, we\u2019re sharing a list of options we\u2019ve confirmed fiscally sponsor news businesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not a comprehensive list, but hopefully serves as a good starting point for researching fiscal sponsor options. If JFP learns that the news organization is not meeting grant specifics \u2014 such as \u201cdeciding\u201d to furlough the funded position without pay for two weeks as part of a company-wide mandate, JFP claws back that money from the news organization so the funding can go to another newsroom to fulfill the funder\u2019s needs. JFP serves news organizations by keeping funders far from anything that would endanger independent editorial integrity. This includes the job description, hiring, and oversight of funded positions. Funders do not talk directly to news organizations unless it is through JFP.
